Hungry Asian Boy

Live to eat!

Lets do lunch at Chan Kee Roast Goose

63 Sham Tseng Village, Castle Peak Road , Sham Tseng.

During the lunar new year period, I decided to try something that outside my regular haunts. After living in Hong Kong for a couple of years, I have been told endless number of time to try the roast goose in Sham Tseng. Taking the MTR to Tsuen Wan and a short cab ride, I arrived at the front door of Sham Tseng village and the old favourite Chan Kee restaurant. So let’s go for it, I ordered half a bird and some stir fry vegetables. The service was somewhat lacking and thank goodness they didn’t mind people helping themselves with the tea and hot water (probably because it was Chinese New Year and when I got there it was around meal time for restaurant staff). The goose was crispy, fragrant but way too oily. The meat was tender, well spiced and it was easy to pull off the bone. The plum sauce was homemade and had a greenish like colour to it. It was less sweet than the regular run of the mill plum sauce. The stir fried snow pea leaves were again too oily despite a request was made when ordering to be oily. However the vegetables were fresh and young which was nice since regular deliveries to restaurants were disrupted due to the holiday period.
