Hungry Asian Boy

Live to eat!

Le Blanc

6th floor, 83 Wan Chai Road, Wan Chai.

I was looking forward to this gathering with my best friends at one of my favorite French private kitchen in town. A cousin restaurant to Le Marron, I prefer Le Blanc for its friendly staff, interesting decor and comfortable environment. Spoilt for choice I opted for the escargot soup, the sautee foie gras (oh please twist my arm!), seafood platter (golden whelks, mussels and shrimps), fruit sorbet refresher, and Berkshire pork rack with prune and apple. Seems enough for one? I reckon so!! The escargot soup had an unexpected earthy flavour with lots of chewy escargot bits, it was ok but not a soup that I would particular crave for. The foie gras was cooked perfectly and complemented well with the poached quince and hazelnuts. The seafood platter almost knocked me off my seat from the size of it. The shrimps were fresh and sweet, and the whelks were tender. Whilst I’m not a fan of mussels, it was quickly devoured by others on the table. The fruit sorbet was mango and lychee which presented a refreshing break to my palette at this point in time. The rack of pork was a big size serve and by now I started to feel the recent inclusions into my stomach. The apple and prune complemented the savory flavour of the pork rack though it could have done with abit more sauce. Unfortunately I felt the pork was rather dry which detracted from the experience. Amongst the mains, the braise angus beef with onions and beer served with gnocchi was a clear winner (I shall be back for this!!). We also ordered the braised pork knuckle with apples and black pudding, the meat was cooked till it fell off the bone and the apple and black pudding sauce added some lightness to the dish. Well done Le Blanc!
